Sectional sofas seat more people in a corner or an open room than a sofa and chairs can. Ours are a small selection built mainly around modular pieces: corner, arm and armless pieces, with matching arm pillows, that combine into the shape your room needs, alongside a few complete sectionals and sets. Most are covered in performance fabric, a practical choice for a family room. Beige and grey lead the colours, so modular sectionals like these blend with most rugs and walls.

Buying notes

With modular pieces, you plan the shape yourself. Decide where the long side runs and where the corner goes, then choose the pieces to fill it: a corner piece for the turn, arm pieces at the two ends and armless pieces in between to lengthen either side. Check each piece’s width and depth in its listing and add the widths along each side to get the full size, then compare that with the wall and the walkways around it.

Orientation trips people up, so fix it early. “Right arm” and “left arm” describe the side the arm is on when you stand facing the piece, not when you sit on it. Sketch the room from the doorway, mark which way the long side runs, and choose the arm pieces to match. Keep 75 to 90 cm (30–36 in) walkways and about 45 cm (18 in) between the seat and the coffee table; in an open room, the back of a sectional can define the living area.

Modular pieces travel separately, which makes stairs, tight turns and elevators easier than with a one-piece sofa, and lets you add a matching piece later while it is available.
