Wall mirrors

Wall mirrors open up a hallway, brighten a dark corner and finish the wall above a console or dresser. Ours come in round, arched, oval and rectangular shapes, framed in wood, iron and other metals, with brass and gold finishes alongside black and brown. Half are 66 cm (26 in) wide or less, and heights run mostly from 75 to 173 cm (30–68 in), so large mirrors and floor mirrors for leaning or full-length use sit next to smaller decorative mirrors.

Buying notes

Choose the shape to suit the lines around it. A round mirror softens a room full of straight edges, such as a rectangular console, a boxy sideboard or a row of cabinets; an arched mirror adds height and works well in a narrow entry; a rectangular mirror echoes a dresser or a doorway. The frame sets the tone: black iron reads crisp and graphic, wood warms a bedroom or hallway, and brass or gold finishes catch the light. For a mirror that almost disappears, pick a slim frame close to your wall colour.

Above a console, dresser or sideboard, choose a mirror about two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the furniture, and leave 15–25 cm (6–10 in) between the surface and the bottom edge so the two read as one arrangement. On a bare wall, centre the mirror at about eye level, roughly 145–152 cm (57–60 in) from the floor. Most of our mirrors are 51 to 102 cm (20–40 in) wide; measure the furniture first, then compare it with the listed width and height.

A mirror beside or across from a window bounces daylight deeper into the room, so look at what it will reflect before you commit: a view or a lamp is better than a cluttered corner. Hang heavy mirrors from a stud or from rated anchors on two points so they stay level, and check whether your wall is drywall, plaster or brick before buying hardware. A tall mirror used leaning against the wall should still be secured at the top so it cannot tip.

What size mirror goes above a console or dresser?

About two-thirds to three-quarters the width of the furniture, with the bottom edge 15–25 cm (6–10 in) above the surface. For a 120 cm console, that means a mirror roughly 80 to 90 cm wide. Measure the furniture, then check the listed width of the mirror.

How high should I hang a wall mirror?

On a bare wall, centre it at about eye level, roughly 145–152 cm (57–60 in) from the floor. Above furniture, work from the surface instead: leave 15–25 cm (6–10 in) between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the mirror.

Can I lean a floor mirror against the wall?

Our tallest mirrors reach 170 cm (67 in) and more, a size that works leaned for full-length use. Secure a leaning mirror to the wall at the top so it cannot tip, especially in a home with children or pets.
