Ottomans

An ottoman is a footrest, extra seat and coffee table in one, and it moves wherever the room needs it. Many are upholstered, in bouclé, performance fabric or leather, often on wood frames, and they include a storage ottoman, a sectional ottoman piece and a cedar Adirondack ottoman for outdoors. Most are 36 to 91 cm (14–36 in) wide and 41 to 50 cm (16–20 in) tall, so there are small footstools for a reading chair and wider ottomans for a sofa. Black, brown and grey lead the colours.

Buying notes

Height decides comfort. An ottoman used as a footrest should sit at the same height as the sofa or chair seat, or up to about 5 cm (2 in) lower, so your legs rest level rather than tipping up or dropping away. Most of our ottomans are 41 to 50 cm tall, which suits the usual seat height of sofas and armchairs; measure your own seat before you choose. For a pair of armchairs, one ottoman between them can serve both.

An ottoman can stand in for a coffee table, which suits small rooms and homes with children, since there are no hard corners. Add a tray on top so cups and plates sit level on an upholstered surface. A storage ottoman goes further: throws, games and remotes disappear inside, and the lid still works as a seat or footrest. A sectional ottoman piece is made to pair with a sectional and turn part of it into a lounger.

Choose the cover for where feet and pets meet the furniture. Performance fabric and leather are the easiest to keep clean; bouclé is soft and forgiving of small marks. Check each listing’s care instructions. The cedar Adirondack ottoman is made for outdoor use on a deck or porch. Delivery is priced live at checkout for your address.

Questions

How tall should an ottoman be?

At the same height as the sofa or chair seat, or up to about 5 cm (2 in) lower. Most of our ottomans are 41 to 50 cm (16–20 in) tall, which suits most sofas and armchairs.

Can an ottoman replace a coffee table?

Yes, especially in small rooms or with children, since it has no hard corners. Add a tray on top so cups and plates sit level on the upholstery.

What is the difference between an ottoman and a pouf?

An ottoman is usually a framed, upholstered piece, often on legs, sometimes with storage inside. A pouf is a softer, lighter cushion-like seat with no frame, easy to move between rooms.

How much is delivery, and can I return an ottoman?

Delivery is priced live at checkout for your address, so you see the cost before paying. Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery; you pay return shipping, and a 20% restocking fee applies.
